RUOne: A Student Centric App
Overview
For the Introduction to User Experience design course, we were given a task by Rutgers university to assist the student population. As a result, we defined and prototyped a mobile application for students and staff. We went through the process of contextual inquiry, user research, design, and testing.
Role
Each of us handled all aspects of the project in order to gain exposure. With my existing design and Figma experience however, I became the primary reference for the wireframes and mock-ups of our application.

User Research
For this project, Rutgers assigned us a specific proposal to guide us through the process. To determine what it was that students needed as support on campus, we conducted a contextual inquiry by interviewing students on campus. We focused on three core questions.
Were students facing stress at college? How were they managing it?
Were students aware and utilizing resources that the university provided?
Were students finding groups and organizations on campus that they wanted to be a part of for their identity?
Findings
From these interviews, we discovered that older students were having a harder time managing their college life. With an increased workload and decreased social opportunities, they did not feel as supported as they did when they were freshmen.
“Define and build a pilot for an interactive product that will provide the student and faculty population on Rutgers New Brunswick campuses a means to support their own and each other’s identity, sense of well-being, and day-to-day lives.” -Request for Proposal
Results
From our research, we discovered that older students were struggling more than freshmen to find groups to socialize in and manage their time. We wanted to create an application that would serve these needs. We included functionality such as schedules and a group locator.
Conclusions
We were able to successfully research and apply our findings in building an application. We had a time limit of a week and had to be efficient in our objectives and work.
